This talk examines the Landed Estates of County Roscommon, looking at some of the larger estates in detail and talking about members of the families that resided there. This illustrated presentation is made up of photographs of these houses some from private family collections. There has been an ever increasing interest in country houses over the past number of years and Roscommon contained some of the finest houses in the country, many of which are no longer standing, such as Rockingham and Frenchpark. We are lucky to have some fine houses still standing, and open to the public, examples being King House, Clonalis, Castlecoote and Strokestown Park. The talk will also look at some of the small to medium sized houses in the Boyle area.
