Lunchtime Concert: TUDublin Junior Pianists: Lucy Byrne, Peter Ryan, Gerry Yang

This showcase of DIT’s Rising Stars was a sold out event last year and we expect it to be popular again in 2019

15 year old Lucy Byrne began her piano tuition at the age of 5. She has been a student of the TU Conservatory of Music and Drama since 2015, studying piano with Alison Thomas.  She has competed in many competitions including Feis Ceoil, Wesley Interschools Festival as well as DIT Junior Competitions where she is a multiple prize winner.  This is Lucy’s first experience of Boyle Arts Festival and she is delighted to have this opportunity to perform for you this afternoon.

Peter Ryan, aged 11, is studying piano with Dr David Mooney in TU Dublin Conservatory of Music and Drama. Peter made his solo piano debut aged 6 in the National Concert Hall. He is a multiple Feis Ceoil prizewinner for both piano and violin and is a member of the 1st violin section of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, currently their youngest member.

In this year’s Feis Ceoil, Peter won the under 13 competitions in both piano and violin. Having spent the last year studying violin in London, he will take up his violin studies in September at TU Dublin Conservatory.

Fifteen year old Gerry Yang studies piano with Shirin Goudarzi-Tobin at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama in Dublin. He is a multiple prizewinner both in national and international competitions. In 2016 he was awarded first prize at the International Competition “Giovanni Musicisti – Citta di Treviso” in Italy. Gerry was chosen to perform at the Late Late Toy Show in 2014, and in October 2017, he made his Carnegie Hall debut, performing as a soloist with the New York Sinfonietta.
