Enjoy an historical walk around the town of Boyle in the company of Tony Conboy
Tony Conboy is a local history person with a particular interest in Boyle and in his native county of Roscommon. He comes from Castlecoote, the location of Castlecoote House, five miles west of Roscommon town. He went to the CBS secondary school in Roscommon town. After some time in England he returned to University College Galway where he graduated in History and
English with Archaeology being an earlier subject. He came to teach at St. Mary’s College, Boyle in 1972 and immersed himself in many community activities in the town especially the GAA. He was Editor of the award winning History of the GAA in Roscommon in 1990.
He was involved as secretary of the committee responsible for the memorable return to Boyle of the actress Maureen O’Sullivan-the original Jane in the Tarzan films of the thirties- in 1988. Tony has edited a number of publications, has contributed to local history magazines, newspapers and blogs down the years. Boyle is now his place for which he has a great regard as will be demonstrated on this walk of approximately 1 hour 30 minutes
