In 1987 Dublin composer Michael McGlynn founded Anúna, a vocal ensemble that has, in the last three decades, created a singular voice for Irish culture that has had far-reaching influence internationally. McGlynn developed the group to perform his original compositions and to develop a new form of ensemble singing that was related to the indigenous singing tradition of this country (sean nós). Their first real breakthrough occurred when they took part in Bill Whelan’s Riverdance during the interval of the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest.
Boyle Arts Festival are delighted to have Anúna back in Boyle to celebrate their first 30 years and there is no better time to see one of Ireland’s most unusual and unique artistic entities, which still continues to develop and innovate.
